Jersey Mike’s Subs sets opening date, fundraiser to celebrate new site next to Tacoma Mall
The second of three businesses to come to the former Tacoma Pier 1 store site near Nordstrom Rack and the Tacoma Mall is opening next week.
Jersey Mike’s Subs will open March 23 at 4301 S. Steele St., the company announced Friday. Restaurant hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
A grand opening and fundraiser will run at the location March 23-March 27 to support Boys & Girls Club of South Puget Sound.
According to the company, customers with a “special fundraising coupon can make a minimum $3 contribution to Boys & Girls Club of South Puget Sound in exchange for a regular sub. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible.”
Customers can order sandwiches in-store or via Jersey Mike’s app. The company says “delivery is available in most areas through the Jersey Mike’s app or through third-party delivery partners. Curbside pickup is available for orders placed in Jersey Mike’s app.”
A Chipotlane restaurant is also set to open this spring at the location, offering a drive-thru version of Chipotle and replacing the Chipotle now at Tacoma Mall. Xfinity Store by Comcast opened at the site in mid-December.
The building sold earlier this month for $6.9 million to TMP Investments LLC, of Coupeville, Oregon, from MP Pier 1 LLC, which purchased the property in 2018 for nearly $3.5 million.
The Pier 1 store site redevelopment is just one of the projects to take off in the past few years in and around the Tacoma Mall.
Pier 1 closed its Tacoma location in early 2020 ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, retail activity has rebounded with the opening of Nordstrom Rack, Ulta Beauty and Total Wine & More, part of Tacoma Mall’s redevelopment after the demolition of Sears in 2019.
A new Kohl’s department store also is in the works at the mall, according to permit documents filed with the city.
As for Jersey Mike’s, this is the chain’s first Tacoma location among dozens of other sites in Washington state, including Auburn, Bonney Lake, Fife, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Puyallup and University Place.
