Sequestration may close FAA contract control tower at Tacoma Narrows Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration’s contract control tower at the Tacoma Narrows Airport in Gig Harbor may close as the FAA implements the budget sequestration. This proposed tower closure is one of many that could occur at airports around the country.

The male driver was the only occupant in the 2008 Subaru Outback passenger car when witnesses reported he lost control, over corrected, then left the roadway and rolled once over before crashing into a tree at the bottom of a 40 foot embankment. The man was able to self-extricate himself and walk to a Fire District 16 paramedic unit before being treated and transported to an area hospital with what appear to be minor injures. No alcohol or other factors appear to be in play. Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating the scene while tow operators try to figure out how to remove the car. Rollover accident off SR 302 in Wauna curves

A car traveled off state Route 302 and rolled one time down the embankment just after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to police radio traffic. Pierce County Sheriff's Department Peninsula Detachment Deputy Dan Wulick was looking over the scene of the single car rollover accident in the Wauna curves Wednesday morning on the Key Peninsula. Two new members of the Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association’s board were introduced at the organization’s annual meeting in January. John Lantz, a past president of Lucks Food, and Jill Guernsey, an attorney and member of the Gig Harbor City Council, will join reelected board members Bill Fogarty, Nancy Stolz and Guy Hoppen.

The Gig Harbor Family YMCA will soon officially be known as the Tom Taylor Family YMCA. Pierce-Kitsap YMCA President and CEO Bob Ecklund made the announcement Thursday morning at the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce-sponsored public affairs forum.

Angel introduces legislation to prevent future toll increases on Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Rep. Jan Angel, R-Port Orchard, has introduced a measure that would maintain the current price of tolls on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge until financing for the structure is completely re-paid. The bill would allow tolls to be maintained, but not increased, until such time as all loans and debt are paid on the bridge.

Gig Harbor to begin lift station project Feb. 27

The City of Gig Harbor will begin construction Feb. 27 on the largest sewer left station and various manholes. The project, which will be conducted by Rognlin's Inc. of Aberdeen, will last until mid-April.
